The IQ of Zombie Simpsons fans are below average, study finds
A recent study was conducted on the 10th of August 2021 which revealed that people who like the newest Simpsons seasons tend to have lower intelligence than those who don't. The test was done with about 1000 participants and divided into 3 groups, those in the low range, 55-85, the middle range, 85-115 and the high range, 115-145. All of these groups are made from people who have taken an IQ test already and even if they didn't, all participants had to do an IQ test.
After the tests and finding out their IQ, they were told to answer what seasons of The Simpsons the worst are and which are the best, if they like the newer ones and most of all if they were better than the old ones. They were also made to watch multiple different episodes from different seasons. In the test, about 300 were in the low range, 400 were in the middle range and another 300 were in the high range. They all had to answer the same questions and watch the same episodes.
First, they designated the seasons as 1-11 being the good years and seasons 12 and after being the bad years with seasons 7 to 11 being the period when it shifted to its Zombie Simpsons or post season 12 state. They were then asked 10 questions.
1. How do you rate seasons 1-6?
2. How do you rate seasons 7-11?
3. How do you rate seasons 12 and after?
4. What is your favorite and least season, episode and era?
5. What is your favorite and least favorite aspects and moments of the show?
6. Do you believe the show declined, when and why?
7. How do you view the older seasons compared to the newer ones?
8. Do you like the shift to HD?
9. Do you like the term Zombie Simpsons?
10. Do you agree or enjoy its current political direction?
After that, the participants would be told to watch the highest and lowest rated episode of each season and would be asked 5 more questions, totaling to 15 with the last being after they have watched all of them.
1. Do you like the episode?
2. Do you believe that this episode reserved the ratings it got and how much do you believe it should have got?
3. What is your favorite and least favorite part of the episode?
4. Would you rewatch it again?
5. out of all of them, which ones do you think were the best and which ones were the worst and why?
The study would take an entire year to get completed. originally it was going to be a marathon, but it would take too much time and many who participated did not want to watch every episode.
The results were astonishing. the lower range was shown to prefer the newer seasons by large whereas the middle and higher group preferred the older seasons. the difference between the middle and high groups is that the middle group is a lot less extreme.
The people in the lower range, however, mostly do like the earlier seasons but a select few stated that the earlier seasons are "overrated" or "weird." 75% believed that the newer seasons are better, 5% believe that the older seasons are better and 20% are neutral about it.
For the middle range, 85 preferred the older seasons, 5% preferred the newer seasons and 10% were neutral.
For high range, 95% preferred the older seasons, with around 3% preferring the newer seasons and 2% being neutral.
The lower group all seem to have the belief that the newer the episode is, the better with them liking slapstick, physical violence, guest stars, and the look of the HD seasons. They however do not like the satire, seeing them as barely understandable and don't care about how characters should or shouldn't behave.
The middle group mostly prefers older episode but see some value in the older seasons, believing that there has been an occasional hit in the heap of trash. They like multilayered writing and good character portrayals and have a good understanding of the political and social themes for most of the episodes. They, however, do not like it when the writing is flat, the jokes aren't funny and characters do not be like themselves.
The higher group as mentioned earlier is much more extreme than the medium group. They only like the older seasons and see little to no merit in the later ones, with none of them being considered good, even the ones that are well received are bad. They like biting satire and social commentary along with parodies and references to numerous things. They dislike it when it embraces the said thing it is supposed to criticize, Characters no longer satirize anything and bad parodies and references.
In conclusion, whether somebody likes the newer or older seasons better is highly correlated with intelligence along with their intelligence affecting their taste in what is good and what is bad about the show.
